N-M.B.C.P Activity Report – May 2015

INCIDENT/CRIME TRENDS

In May, there were no clear patterns in the incidents responded to by the patrol team.

Fraud

  1. On 9th May 2015 at 1509hrs, The Kenya Police and NMBCP responded to a call from a community member reporting a case of cheque fraud at Naro Moru Town. On arrival, the team found that a bodaboda operator had been sent to buy books at a bookshop with a cheque of KShs 443,160 face value. The team mounted a search for the suspect but he had switched off his phone. No arrest was made.

Theft

  1. On 26th May 2015 at 1535hrs, The Kenya Police and NMBCP responded to a call from a sponsor at Burguret reporting a case of a theft. On arrival, the team found that a circular timber saw worth KShs 50,000 had been stolen. The team mounted a search in workers’ houses but no recovery was made.

Attempted Theft

  1. On 16th May 2015 at 0730hrs, The Kenya Police and NMBCP responded to a call from a local sponsor reporting a case of attempted livestock theft at Swara. On arrival, the team found that two herdsmen had been confronted by morans armed with crude weapons with intentions of stealing sheep. The two escaped and raised the alarm to which villagers responded. On seeing the approaching villagers, the morans fled leaving behind 150 sheep which they were driving away. The area was patrolled and left calm. No arrest was made.
  1. On 18th May 2015 at 0144hrs, The Kenya Police and NMBCP responded to a call from a local sponsor at Ichuga reporting a case of attempted theft. On arrival, the team found that unknown suspects had tried to gain entry into the compound but had fled without stealing anything upon realizing that they had been spotted. The area was left calm.

Other Incidents

  1. On 16th May 2015 at 0300hrs, The Kenya Police and NMBCP responded to a call from area chief Gathiuru reporting a case of mob justice. On arrival, the team found that a man had been beaten up by a mob on suspicion that he was a thief and was badly injured. He was rushed to Nanyuki Hospital by the community patrol vehicle.

Mobile Patrols

In this period, NMBCP and The Kenya Police carried out 21 night patrols. Areas patrolled included Karicheni, Gatuamba, Thung’ari, Huhoini, Aguthi, Nyang’e, Solio Village 3, 6, 2, Kahuho, Kakurate, Route, Rongai, Kiambuthia, Irigithathi, Mugunyu, Mung’etho, Shalom School, Munyaka Girls, Lenana, Ndiriti, Gatune, Mwichuiri, Kariokor, Anitz’s, Kabati, Gitero, Mureru, Kwa Makara, Green Estate, Naro Moru, Royal Cottage, Tambuzi, Solio Gardens, Kiboya, Gatuanyaga, Airstrip, Jogi, Ngarariga, Ragati, Kaaga, Mlimani, Equator, Silent Valley, Kwa Huku, Gathiuru, Mutamaiyu, Ichuga, Swara, Tamtrout and along the Nanyuki-Kiganjo Highway.
